A 336-square-foot MetroNet utility structure is proposed along Smokey Row Road. (Submitted rendering)

MetroNet has submitted plans to the City of Carmel to tear down a home along Smokey Row Road to construct a network utility shelter.

The high-speed internet provider is proposing to demolish a home at 30 8th St. NW to build a 336-square-foot brick structure to house fiber optic communications equipment. Plans call for the shelter to be surrounded by an ornamental steel fence and bordered with evergreen trees.

The Carmel Plan Commission will review the proposal at its May 15 meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. at Carmel City Hall.
