Wool contest winner – Zionsville Community High School senior Molly Grotjan earned fifth place in the junior category of the national Make it With Wool contest. Grotjan made a navy blue lined skirt, lined color-blocked cream and navy top, and navy, gray and cream colored cape with button closure.

Student pages – The following Zionsville students recently served as Indiana Senate pages for a day: Emily Taber, Austin Conrad, Cole Harness, Lija Kuhn, Ella Robinson and Lily Robinson.

Mortgage burning ceremony – ZUMC will hold a Church Dedication and Mortgage Burning Celebration on April 29. Service times include: Worship 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., Celebration and Mortgage Burning 10:40 a.m., Worship 11-11:45 a.m.  The church has retired the debt on the building and is moving forward in ministry. Retired United Methodist Bishop Mike Coyner will officiate.

Golden Hoosier nominations – Nominations are being accepted for the 2018 Golden Hoosier Awards. To be eligible for the award, nominees must be Indiana residents, aged 65 or older and have been a volunteer in the community for the past three years. Nomination forms are available at lg.in.gov and are due by May 14.

Summer camp registration – Registration is now open for Traders Point Christian Academy summer camps. Camp Invention includes hands-on STEM activities such as building a robot dog. Springhill Day Camp is full of outdoor adventures including rock climbing, water slides and more. For more, visit tpcs.org.

Garden plots sign-up available – Community garden plots are available for sign-up at Heritage Trail Park and Elm Street Green. Cost is $25 for a 20’x20’ plot. Visit Zionsville Town Hall during business hours to reserve a plot. Gardens will be open no later than May 15, weather permitting.

State fair registration open – Registration is now open for all competitions for the 2018 Indiana State Fair. Competitors can choose from 38 departments, including vegetables, livestock, photography and textiles. All ages are welcome to compete for cash prizes and 8,292 blue ribbons to be awarded. Free Constitution sessions – The Constitution Party will host a series of free sessions on the Constitution. Sessions will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on the first Saturday of the month from Feb. through July at Old National Banking Center, 385 S. Main St. Nick Frecker will lead the series and will be using The Founding Fathers Guide to the Constitution by Brion McClanahan. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the sessions.

Cadet Law Enforcement Academy – The Indiana Youth Cadet Law Enforcement Academy is currently accepting applications for the 2018 class. The Academy is limited to the first 50 applicants. Library programs – Explore Science, 5:15 to 6:16 p.m. April 11. For families. Practice measuring skills, estimating, simple chemistry reactions and more at various stations. Governor’s Fellowship applications – Governor Holcomb has announced that applications will be accepted through April 6 for the 2018-2019 Governor’s Fellowship. The program is open to college graduates who receive their bachelor’s degrees in the fall of 2017 or the spring of 2018. Fellows participate in the daily activities and operation of state government, complete special projects, and experience firsthand how policies are made. IURC vacancy – The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission Nominating Committee is soliciting applications from people interested in filling an upcoming vacancy on the commission created by the expiration of Angela Weber’s term. Parks programs – Monthly dog walk, 6 to 7 p.m. April 19, Starkey Park. Let your dog enjoy the sights and smells of spring. Pull For Parks will be held April 21-22 and we need help from local groups to remove invasive plants from target areas. Theater Thursdays – Boone County Senior Services, Inc. brings back Theater Thursdays on the third Thursday of each month with a special morning movie at the Lebanon 7 Theater, 1600 N. Lebanon St. for those ages 60 and over. The cost is $1/person and includes a breakfast snack. Upcoming movies include: April 19 – Going In Style; May 17 – Home Again. After Prom preview event – Each year after the prom, high school students are invited to attend After Prom, a supervised, substance free event that provides activities, prizes and scholarships. The community is invited to the Preview Showcase from 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 21 at Zionsville Community High School. 

Cowpokes & Cocktails – Eiteljorg Museum presents Cowpokes & Cocktails from 6 to 11 p.m. April 28 at Fitness Farm, 2525 W. 44th St. This is a high-end fundraiser that includes exquisite food, a cocktail contest, silent and live auction. Kristi Lee of the Bob & Tom Show will serve as emcee and auctioneer. Tickets start at $200 and are available at bidpal.net/cowpokes.

Marketing awards earned – Indianapolis advertising agency HendrixRaderWise, Inc. recently won several gold ADDY awards for its work with Lake City Bank and the Indianapolis International Airport. The awards included Top Television Campaign, Individual Television, and BtoB Campaign (TV, print, and digital).

Real estate update – Homes in Zionsville are increasing significantly in price while leaving the market faster. According to F.C. Tucker, the average sale price for homes sold in Zionsville in February 2018 was $488,991 at an average of $144.70 per square foot, the highest price in the area and a 13 percent increase. Homes in the city sold in an average of 84 days, 15 days faster than this time last year.
