Letter: On celebrating America

Editor,

Mayor Scott Fadness, you have done some very fine things in our town, but you have really got this one wrong: Fourth of July. My parents were Irish immigrants, and we lived in a culturally rich neighborhood on the south side of Chicago. Some of our neighbors spoke very little English, but they sang “It’s a Grand Old Flag” and waved their flags and walked along beside the parade. They were so proud to be American and loved being part of the celebration. As “we try to fully involve the Fishers community,” let’s not forget why we are so happy to be celebrating this wonderful country.
