Ice carving competition, chili cookoff at Ice at Center Green this weekend

Ice carvers from around the Midwest will test their skills this weekend at Carmel’s new outdoor rink.

The inaugural Carmel Ice Carving Competition will be from noon to 5 p.m. Feb. 17 at the rink, 10 Center Green. The competition will continue from noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 18.

Greg Butauski of Columbus, Ohio, will be one of the competitors. He is one of only six Certified Master Carvers in the nation and is the reigning 2017 National Ice Carving Association champion. Other competitors are Harvey Russell of Kirkwood, Mo., Jeff Peterczak of Columbus, Ohio, Michael Stoddart of Lexington, Ky., Matt Stoddart of Lexington, Ky., Stephan A. Koch of Yorktown, Ind., and Shannon Gerasimchuk of Columbus, Ohio.

Also this weekend is a chili cook-off featuring recipes from the six Carmel fire stations. Guests can sample the chili from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 17 and vote for their favorite recipe.

The two-day event is free and open to the public. Ice skating is available from noon to 10 p.m. Feb. 17 and noon to 9 p.m. Feb. 18.
