The Community Foundation of Boone County will host the 2018 Community Impact Breakfast Feb. 22 at Zionsville Town Hall, 1100 W. Oak St. The event focuses on sharing the successes of 2017 and the awarding of more than $100,000 in grants to Boone County nonprofits.

“The nonprofits that receive the grants at this breakfast have funds with us,” said Kristi Reynolds, CFBC president and CEO. “At some point a donor or the nonprofit themselves have set up an endowment fund with us. So, every year they receive the interest from that fund. We have Western Boone Education Foundation that will receive well over $20,000. We have smaller nonprofits that just started a fund with us that will get $250.

“We are really trying to encourage sustainable funding for nonprofits so they don’t constantly have to be fundraising. Having a fund with us is one way they can do that.”

CFBC also will award the Aaron Stookey Spirit of Philanthropy Award and the Lionel Dubay Youth Sports Award to members of Boone County who are making a difference.

“The other big thing we’re going to do is announce our leadership initiative for 2018, which will really focus on capacity building,” Reynolds said. “That means we’re going to spend a majority of our funding helping the nonprofits in our area become stronger internally. That includes leadership training for executive directors, board governance training and helping our nonprofits understand how to be fiscally responsible with their dollars so we don’t continue to see theft and fraud in nonprofits in our area.”

The breakfast starts at 7:30 a.m. and is open to the public. The event is free but a $20 donation to the fund is appreciated.

“This is a great way you can support a nonprofit long-term and in perpetuity, so they know they have these dollars coming in every year,” Reynolds said.
