Mark Johnson’s weekly foray into awesome dining
Where to go: Joella’s Hot Chicken
Where it is: 4715 E. 96th Street, Indianapolis
When it’s open: Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Mark’s take: Where would you find Southern-style fried chicken this far north of the Mason-Dixon Line? That would be none other than Joella’s Hot Chicken, a casual, family friendly restaurant that exudes that southern atmosphere. Chicken entrees, along with sandwiches and salads, are all part of the menu at Joella’s. Here’s the best part: You choose the level of spice for your chicken, from “no heat” to “fire-in-da-hole inferno.” Joella’s also offers some tasty sides to add flavor to the meal. Pay a visit to Joella’s and experience the charm.
What to get: If you can’t make up your mind, the 3 Jumbo Tenders are a great bet. Try them with the Spiked Honey sauce and a side of the Parm Garlic Fries. Wash it down with one of the Boylan craft sodas. For dessert, you can’t go wrong with the banana puddin’.
What’s the cost: Entrees run $7.50 to $11.50.
