Holiday Wishes can come in all different forms.
The Carmel High School choirs will put that on display as its theme for the annual Holiday Spectacular. Featuring 11 choirs, it is sec for 7 p.m. Dec. 6, 7 and 9 and 2 p.m. Dec. 9 and 10.
“It can be more material things like wishing for a certain present or wishing for Santa or wishing it snow,” said Kathrine Kouns, CHS director of choirs. “Then it could also be wishing for miracles or wishing to be with family or wishing for a fresh start in the new year.
“The two new directors, Kyle Baker and Sam Chenoweth, this year are bringing their own vision to bringing things. The biggest thing that is going to be different this year is just the overall look.”
Kouns said the orchestra will be on stage with the choirs.
“They are on a platform towards the back of the stage and the rest of the stage is filled with performers,” Kouns said. “It’s a new and interesting look to feature them more.”
Kouns said the Rockettes line, a mixture of the choir, is back again.
“When the show started it was based on the Radio City Music Special,” Kouns said. “That featured the Rockettes, so it been our own tradition to have our Rockettes line.”
As in past years, there will be some numbers with individual choirs and some with all the groups together.
“There’s lot of new costumes but there are some old standard favorites,” Kouns said. “Of course, we’ll be expecting a visit from Santa Claus.
In addition, Select Sound, a 20-member a cappella group, will be Christmas caroling in the lobby.
“That group is available to be hired out for private parties and functions around town. We can send out all 20, a quartet or whatever people need.”

Since it’s the season for giving, Kouns said Carmel Choirs will partner with the CHS PTO Backpack Program during Holiday Spectacular by collecting nonperishable food and grocery store gift cards at each show to help feed Carmel Clay students in our own community.
