3 new Hazel Dell Parkway roundabout sculptures celebrate youth sports 


The City of Carmel has installed three new, large sculptures in the center of roundabouts along Hazel Dell Parkway that celebrate youth sports.

The sculptures are at Hazel Dell Parkway intersections with Main Street, 126th Street and 116th Street. The city selected athletic-themed art as a way to pay homage to the many athletic fields and green spaces in that area of town.

Name: Home Run

Location: 126th Street and Hazel Dell Parkway

Description: Baseball-themed characters (catcher and batter)

Material: Powder-coated aluminum 104 x 263 x 32 inches

Cost: $155,000

Name: Kick

Location: Main Street and Hazel Dell Parkway

Description: Soccer-themed characters (players with soccer ball)

Material: Powder-coated aluminum 104 x 140 x 36 inches

Cost: $134,000

Name: On Wheels

Location: 116th Street and Hazel Dell Parkway

Description: Cyclist-themed characters

Material: Powder-coated aluminum 198 1/2 x 96 1/2 x 16 inches (each)

Cost: $198,500

Total installation cost for all three pieces: $10,000


Jorge Blanco is an international artist who has created a distinctive sculptural language for more than 40 years. His trademark subject is an abstracted joyful figure, and his numerous large format public art sculptures can be seen across the globe.
