The Caring Center is hoping to kick off its feeding the hungry for the holidays mission with a round of golf.
The Caring Center golf outing is set for 10 a.m. Sept. 30 at the Golf Club of Indiana in Lebanon. Theresa Hanners, executive director of the nonprofit for more than 25 years, said it is the first time a fundraiser will be held at the Golf Club of Indiana. Hanners said she wants to have about 150 golfers.
“We do about 300 Christmas meals and 300 Thanksgiving meals, so we need a lot of food on-site,” Hanners said. “It takes about $50 per family on average to get that meal together.”
Hanners said her organization’s goal is to end childhood hunger.
“We try to identify where those people are that are hungry and let them know where they can go to get food,” Hanners said. “We have a client-choice food pantry.”
Hanners said the nonprofit regularly feeds 400 families a month.
The cost for the golf outing is $75 per person and $300 per foursome. One free beverage is included. There will be a cook-out lunch provided at the turn. The registration fee is tax deductible.
Four amateur golfers will be chosen to play for a hole-in-one at 135 yards. If one of them is successful, a $25,000 cash prize will go to the individual plus $25,000 to The Caring Center. The $50,000 hole-in-one sponsors are Home National Bank, Personal Finance Company and State Farm/Ron Schulte in Lebanon. Crystal Cole Insurance, Zionsville Eyecare and Impact Golf & Fitness LLC will sponsor a putting contest.
The lunch sponsors are Flamme Burger, Zionsville; Kroger, Lebanon; Confectioneiress Cupcakes & Sweets, Zionsville; and Schakolad Chocolate Factory in Indianapolis.
