The Community Foundation of Boone County wants to match volunteers with 40 nonprofit organizations during its Volunteer Board and Recruitment Fair from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Witham Pavilion at the Boone County 4-H Fairgrounds.

“This is a first for Boone County,” said Tiffany Perdue, CFBC director of communications and development. “Hendricks County did this and it was very successful, so we thought what better way to engage the people in the community than to have them come out and meet the nonprofits here serving Boone County.”

Each nonprofit will have a table explaining its mission and job descriptions for  volunteers and board members.

“They will be interacting with guests and describing their need for volunteers,” Perdue said. “It’s a great way for the nonprofits to engage right there with the people who might be volunteering.”

Because of its proximity to Marion County, many volunteers choose to donate time and money there instead of Boone County.

“Part of our mission is to act as a catalyst for the nonprofits right here in the county. One of the things we’ve heard is that they struggle in finding quality volunteers,” Perdue said. “One thing we really wanted to make sure our county residents knew is that there are a ton of ways they can volunteer in the county in which they live.”

The event will include door prizes and food trucks.

“It’s a very fun, casual event,” Perdue said. “You can come and grab dinner and walk through the booths.”
