Evergreen Psychological Services opened its doors in April, specializing in therapy and assessments for children and adults.
The facility, 1155 Parkway Dr., has clinicians ranging from psychologists to licensed mental health counselors to social workers. Evergreen offers therapy for individuals, families and adults.
“We work with children and adults to answer a variety of questions,” said Kelly Young, co-owner and clinical psychologist. “Sometimes parents have questions about how their kid is performing in school or what’s going on with them socially and emotionally.”
Evergreen also works with pediatricians to assist with diagnosing mental health issues.
“We can help provide pediatricians with clarification of diagnosis as well as helping parents or adults provide recommendations just based on the results of the testing,” Young said.
Mental health and well-being are often overlooked in the health-conscience world of today, Young said.
“It’s extremely important to focus on mental health and wellness in addition to physical health and wellness. It’s really the foundation,” Young said. “We are doing a lot better focusing on the physical aspects of people, but the mental health aspect is also not something that is able to be seen, especially with kids. Sometimes you just see behaviors. Or you see someone who is struggling or argumentative, and that’s not really what it is at all. Maybe they’re more sad or upset.”
