A Boone County Republican Caucus on May 15 selected Plunkett as the next member of the Zionsville Town Council. He’ll be sworn into office July 1, just weeks after he and his wife, Brittany, are planning to welcome their first child.

Plunkett won with 14 votes from the precinct committeemen on the first ballot, with Steve Tarr receiving 3, Sara Martini taking 2 and Candace Ulmer getting 1.

Plunkett will replace councilor Jeff Papa, who is stepping down at the end of June. Papa is starting a new job with Barnes & Thornburg, a firm that provides legal counsel for the Town of Zionsville.

Plunkett, 38, is a financial representative at Northwestern Mutual and has lived in Zionsville since 2011. He is president of the Zionsville Community Development Corp. and serves on the Boone County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

He said he’d been considering a run for town council or other public office for approximately two years.

“I’ve been wanting to do this for a while, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity,” Plunkett said after the vote.
