Kim Heffner has joined the Boone County Economic Development Corp. as director of marketing and communications. She said the opportunity to help “influence growth and development” of the county drew her to the role.

“(I’m) basically focusing on where I will raise my family,” she said. “I have a 10-month-old daughter, and I love the idea of helping develop the community in which she will grow up.”

Heffner said being a county resident provides a great overview of what the area has to offer. Her husband, Andrew, is a Boone County native. They now reside in Lebanon.

Heffner wants to focus on telling Boone County’s story to help attract and retain businesses and residents.

“One of our big selling points is the great schools in this area. That’s a big deal for families. We also have a lot of great recreational opportunities and a lot of great restaurants and family activities,” she said. “It really is a great place to raise a family, which is why I’ve chosen to do that here myself.”

Her first focus will be rebranding the EDC, from the logo to the website, to provide a fresh look and updated resource of what is available in the county.

“The Boone EDC is the chief economic development and marketing organization for Boone County, and if we want to continue our positive economic growth, we must look for ways to engage our community and tell our story in a powerful way,” said Molly Whitehead, Boone EDC executive director. “We’re confident Kim’s experience and skills will allow us to expand our messaging and market Boone County more effectively.”

Heffner most recently served as communications and events director for the Indiana Builders Association and as a senior press secretary for the Indiana House of Representatives.
