I am writing today to show my support for the current construction referendum that Westfield School System is trying to pass May 2.
While I am like most people and hate to pay taxes, I understand that they are necessary for us to help fund programs such as the public educational system.
The reasons I am supporting this referendum are:
1. I want the best for our kids. I don’t think packing our kids like sardines into a can is the best way for our kids to learn. I want to keep class sizes low, give them ample opportunity to experience many different curriculums and not have to worry about their safety going from inside to outside, especially with the Indiana weather we love so.
2. My business is based in Westfield and it is tied to the school system and its ranking. If people start to see that Westfield is not willing to invest in the school system, they will go elsewhere, and they have plenty of other places to go! Other areas are investing in their school system, and people will choose where they can get the best education because they want to give every advantage they can to their children in the ultra-competitive world that we live in.
3. Lastly, I want my assessed value on my home to continue to increase. Without healthy schools that accommodate our kids with a limited or zero portable classroom environment, our growth will slow and it will affect everything that we have worked so hard to build.
When I moved here in 2005, I was so excited about all the possibilities with Westfield, and I am even more excited today by all changes that have taken place and the strength of our school system. Westfield has great leadership in place to help us now and in the future!
