Local nonprofit Chaucie’s Place has named Jack Powell as new executive director. Powell will begin March 16.

Powell’s hiring follows the resignation of former Executive Director Toby Stark in October 2016 after six years in the position. Stark named Melissa Peregrin the nonprofit’s interim executive director in November.

“As you know, the Board of Directors has been in the process of completing a thorough executive search to identify the leader that will take Chaucie’s Place into the next chapter as an organization,” Board President Richard Taylor stated in a letter March 2.

Taylor stated that Powell brings more than 15 years of experience in nonprofit consulting and 20 years of experience in educational administration.

“I am pleased to partner with the talented staff and board of Chaucie’s place. I am looking forward to advancing its mission to empower the community to reduce child sexual abuse and youth suicide – so critical to the future of our state’s young people,” Powell stated.

Powell earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Malone University, a master’s degree in education from Wheaton College and a doctorate from Western Michigan University in educational leadership.

“With such extensive expertise in nonprofit and educational administration, Powell will continue the work of the Chaucie’s Place model that is known for being highly sustainable and is the gold standard in childhood sexual abuse and suicide prevention throughout Indiana,” Taylor stated.

Powell also is active in the community serving as a board member of the Indianapolis School of Ballet and as a member of the development committee for Integrating Women Leaders Foundation.
