Westfield Washington Schools is in the process of moving to an online registration system for new students, including those in kindergarten.

WWS Supt. Sherry Grate said it has several advantages.

“With the increase in our student enrollment we just wanted to be able to provide process for registration that is streamlined, efficient and convenient for our parents,” Grate said. “In fact, we will be able to have devices available in each of our schools as well as our administration office in the event parents would want to come in and do the registration online in our offices.”

Grate said this seemed like the right time to launch it.

“I would say with our technology and infrastructure and the timing, we were more prepared for rolling out this process,” Grate said.

Registration is closed from now to its reopening March 9. If a parent or guardian needs to register a student prior to March 9, they should go to the administration building, 1143 E. 181st St.

Parents or guardians should plan to attend kindergarten/new first grade registration March 9, any time between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the child’s elementary school. The following items will be needed: birth certificate, immunizations and proof of residency. Devices and scanners will be available at each elementary school.

“One of the positives about the way the registration process will work is it will work on any device,” said Cathi Barker, the district’s manager of software operation. “You can do it in Safari and Chromebook on your iPad, your iPhone, just multiple platforms it’s available, which is really good. It wasn’t ready for that a few years ago, so that also helps with our timeline.”
