Noblesville Parks and Recreation Dept. Assistant Recreation Director Lorna Steele saw an opportunity to start a father-daughter dance.

“We were approached by some other parks departments that said they weren’t having a father-daughter dance, so we thought this was a time to establish ourselves and make a fun one,” Steele said. “We also wanted to do a mother-son dance because no one really does one in our area. We decided to put it on the same day and market it as a Royal Ball, but it’s actually two separate events.”

The Royal Ball, at Forest Park Inn, 701 Cicero Rd., Feb. 18, consists of a mother-son dance, “Knights in Training,” from 3 to 5 p.m. The father-daughter dance, “Princess Ball,” is from 7 to 9 p.m.

Each of the dances is nearly identical, featuring a carriage ride, sundae bar and fun activities. Attire is semi-formal.

“We wanted to have them at different times because that’s a unique opportunity for each,” Steele said. “We thought it’s more special if we split them up and give them their own events. When you get them separate, some really fun bonds are made. We might play a little different music for the boys, but (the dances) are pretty much the same.”

Guests of the event also can expect a DJ and a photographer.

“Every one will leave with a picture and a handmade frame they can decorate,” Steele said.

There will be carriage rides around Forest Park. Steele said there is room for 60 couples to dance.

Pre-registration is required at noblesvilleparks.org or by calling 317-770-5750. Cost is $30 per couple and $8 per additional child for residents and $45 per couple and $12 per additional child for non-residents.
