Tommy Lee Backhoff, 74, Noblesville, died Jan. 5 at Riverwalk Village in Noblesville. He was born June 20, 1942, to William Henry Backhoff and Miriam (Glover) Ingram in Lafayette, Ind.

Tom proudly served his country for three tours in Vietnam in the United States Navy. He worked as a computer programmer for more than 15 years for Logo 7. Tom loved computers and teaching his grandkids about the computer and computer games. He enjoyed reading and watching science fiction, loved “Star Trek” and being a Trekkie, and loved the Dune book and movie series. Tom also enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. Most of all, he loved his kids, grandkids and his cats.

Tom is survived by his children, William (Kathy) Backhoff, Marianne (Bart) McLeod and Tommy (Katy) Backhoff, Jr., longtime friend who was like a son Matt McGreal, grandchildren McKenzie (TJ) Streeval, Jeremy Davidson II, Liam Backhoff, Asha Backhoff, Brandon McLeod, Tyler McLeod, Cameron McLeod and Andrew McLeod, great-grandchild Adalyn, his cat, Oscar Otis Backhoff, as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Backhoff, in 2014, and his brother, Stanley Backhoff.
