Melvin Chastain, 81, Noblesville, died Jan. 1 at his home. He was born Aug. 10, 1935 to Alvin and Lillie (Cunningham) Chastain in Pleasant Hill, Tenn.

For 28 years, Melvin worked for Firestone in compounds and subsequently as a mechanic, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Green Valley Church of Christ and enjoyed fishing. Melvin was a Past Master in 2000 of Noblesville Lodge No. 57 F&AM, and also mentored new Masons. He held memberships with Noblesville Order of the Eastern Star, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, York Rite, Noblesville Moose Lodge No. 540 and the old car club, as he loved vintage cars. Melvin loved his family and the times they shared together.

He is survived by his son, Richard (Robin) Chastain, grandchildren Christina Baker Owens (Jake), Nicole Baker (Jimmy), Travis Chastain, Brad Williams (Miranda) and Katie and Sarah Beagle, great-grandchildren Hannah, Cody, Blake and Summer Baker and Rebecca Williams, sister Edith Chastain and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ada P. Chastain, son Roger Chastain, daughter Melba Chastain and sister Judy Chastain.
