After serving five years as president of Legacy Fund of Hamilton County, Terry Anker has announced he will step down at the end of March.

“I feel incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity to be here during this period,” Anker said. “Now, it’s going to be my honor to hand the baton to the next person who will be able to go from a much taller platform than even I came on, and build the organization further.”

A search committee headed by Ann M. O’Hara, incoming board chair for Legacy Fund, will work in early 2017 to find a replacement before Anker steps down.

Legacy Fund has been assisting donors in finding their “philanthropic mission” and helping organizations advance their causes in the community for 25 years. Since Anker began his term as president, the organization has collected more than $28 million and awarded 2,714 grants.

During Anker’s tenure, Legacy Fund began working alongside the Youth Assistance Program, which works to create a better community by providing aid to families in need, such as tutoring, parenting classes and more.

Anker helped take it from a “pilot program” in Westfield to an active organization in every school corporation throughout Hamilton County. Anker also invested his personal time in raising awareness.

Prior to Legacy Fund’s involvement with the Youth Assistance Program, the rate of juvenile incarcerations in Hamilton County was on an upward trend. Since Legacy Fund stepped in, a significant drop has occurred, with the juvenile center only at 10 to 15 percent of capacity.

“I’ve really been able to accomplish most of the objectives that I hoped to do: elevating the profile, increasing the endowment, helping the organization realize its goals and missions and serving the community,” Anker said. “I’ve managed to do those things, so it’s time for me to go back to the private sector.”

After leaving Legacy Fund, Anker plans to continue with The Anker Consulting Group as well as provide assistance to start-ups.
