NPArts Showcase Artist — Each month, Nickel Plate Arts presents a showcase of artwork by a local artist or art group inside the Stephenson House Gallery. Winter Break Sewing Camp for Kids — Kids 10-12 years old will learn sewing basics making a drawstring bag, pillowcase and a sewing caddy. They will also learn a variety of stitches, how to operate a sewing machine and how to care for a machine using a rental (included in the fee) from Always In Stitches. All fabric, notions and sewing tools are provided. This is the last day of the camp. 1-3 p.m. Jan. 5, lways in Stitches, 1808 E. Conner St., Noblesville. Cost is $145.99. January First Friday at Nickel Plate Arts — Unwind from the business of the New Year at NPA, with free activities and entertainment, and beer and wine available for purchase. Attendees also get a first look at the Art Next Door exhibit inside the Judge Stone House gallery. Artists of all skill levels and ages will exhibit as part of this collection of art in a range of media featuring pieces from your neighbors, friends and you. Winter Break Camp — To assist parents with kids (kindergarten through fifth grade) home from school, Forest Park is offering a fun camp at its lodge for a few upcoming days. Participants will join the recreation staff for games, crafts, nature, laughter and friendship. Campers should bring their lunch, two snacks, a water bottle and wear gym shoes. Camp is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Before and after care is available from 7 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. for $6 per day. Although this is the last day, kids are welcome to come as the camp does not require attendance of previous days. 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 6, Forest Park Inn, 701 Cicero Rd., Noblesville. Cost is $30 for residents ($40 for non-residents).

Artist Next Door Exhibit at Nickel Plate Arts — NPA’s Artist Next Door Art Exhibit is for and by everyone, found at the Judge Stone House gallery for much of the month of January. Artists of all skill levels and ages will exhibit their pieces. The collection is a range of media featuring pieces from your neighbors, friends and you. Most of the featured art will be available for sale. The exhibit is open to the public during regular business hours and has free admission. See it before it’s gone. Songbook Academy All-Stars — Each summer, the Great American Songbook Foundation brings together 40 of the nation’s top high school vocalists for its week-long vocal competition. Only one is named Songbook Youth Ambassador for the coming year, performing with Foundation founder Michael Feinstein at such venues as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center. This event, for the first time, brings back all seven previous Ambassadors for a special evening of music at the Palladium. Backed by bass, drums and piano, the singers will perform solo and in duets and trios with their peers, performing tunes that represent their current careers as well as their original Songbook Academy performances. Performers are Julia Bonnett, 2009; Annie Yokom, 2010; Nick Ziobro, 2012; Julia Goodwin, 2013; Maddie Baillio, 2014; Lucas DeBard, 2015; Brighton Thomas, 2016. 8 p.m. Jan. 7, The Center for the Performing Arts, at the Palladium, 3 Center Green #200, Carmel. Oil Painting Classes at Nickel Plate Arts — Looking to improve your art skills? Send in a request to reserve your “Art Space,” with your desired dates and a check to J. Rodney Reveal at 7002 E 266th Street Arcadia, IN. Mr. Reveal’s teachings are in conjunction with NPA, as they seek to improve and promote in the community. Drawing Class — Learn to improve your artistic skills in this art class for all skill levels. Nickel Plate artist Eric O’Dell will provide subject matter and provide tips. Nickel Plate Arts will provide the necessary materials but participants are welcome to bring their own materials as well. Must be 15 years old or older. Beginners are welcome.
