Lawrence police make arrest in package delivery thefts

Detectives from the Lawrence Police Dept. made an arrest Dec. 16 in several package delivery thefts in the northeastern area of Lawrence.

After analyzing recent police reports where citizens had reported packages being stolen after they had been delivered, detectives noted a similar vehicle being described in some of the reports, a black Ford Taurus with tape covering one of the taillights, being driven by a white male.

An LPD officer later a black Ford Taurus with tape covering one of the taillights parked in a mobile home community in the far eastern edge of Lawrence. Further investigation revealed a white male was driving this vehicle. Witnesses identified a photograph of the black Ford Taurus as being the same vehicle they observed in the area when the packages were being stolen.

Mentioned in the most recent police report from Dec. 13, of items being stolen after they had been delivered to a home were a children’s “Frozen” art table, and a monogrammed, three-piece luggage set. Detectives applied for a search warrant for the residence where the black Ford Taurus was registered and there found both the art table and luggage set inside the residence.

Michael Allison, 30, Lawrence, was interviewed by detectives, and admitted to stealing packages from several residences after the packages had been delivered. Allison has been charged with Theft, a class A misdemeanor.

Detectives said they credit citizen’s willingness to report package thefts and suspicious activity in their neighborhoods for providing information leading detectives to the black Ford Taurus and developing a suspect in this investigation.
