Emily Stucky’s first major role isn’t too big a reach.

The Zionsville West Middle School eighth grader is playing Jo March in Zionsville Little Theatre Company’s “Little Women.”

“Jo is a lot like me, so it’s kind of like I’m playing myself,” Stucky said. “Jo is very tomboyish. She loves to read and write. She’s very dramatic, very creative. She loves to say what comes to her mind, sometimes a little awkward.”

This is the first production by the Little Theatre Company. “Little Women” will be held at the Whitestown Municipal Complex, 6210 Veterans Dr. There will be shows 7 p.m. Dec. 16, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 17 and 2 p.m. Dec. 18. Seating capacity is 150.

“I love it because this is my first big role,” said Stucky, who turns 13 in January. “I love being on stage.”

Stucky performed in Christian Youth Theater’s “Hello Dolly” this fall and previously appeared in her school’s productions.

Zionsville West fifth grader Mara Lusk, 11, also sees some similarities between herself and her character, Beth March.

“She is really shy, and I kind of like that about it,” Lusk said. “She is kind of like me.”

Lusk has previously acted in Eagle Elementary School plays, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Storyville.”

“It’s fun to express yourself and perform in front of people,” Lusk said of why she likes acting.

This is the first time she auditioned, not knowing if she would get a part. Lusk admitted it was nerve-racking.

The two other March sisters are Alli Sullivan as Meg and Lucy Gregory as Amy. Both are Zionsville residents.

Other cast members include: Benjamin Piper, Lebanon, Laurie, Leanne Piper, Lebanon, Marmee, Larry Adams, Indianapolis, Mr. Laurence, Jean Adams, Indianapolis, Aunt March and George Piper, Lebanon, Colonel March. Lynne Manning is the director.
