Just a week after the Westfield City Council approved by a 4-2 vote the GetGo gas station in the Harmony mixed-use district, to many citizens’ dismay the advisory plan commission forwarded the proposed CVS Pharmacy to the city council with a positive recommendation, 5-0, at its Oct. 17 meeting.
The 12,900-square-foot pharmacy is on 1.96 acres on the northwest corner of Ditch Road and 151st Street.
The proposal received a public hearing June 6. Since then, architectural changes have been made to the developmental plan. The changes are in regard to a village-theme to the pharmacy, similar to the architecture throughout Harmony and the GetGo gas station. The petitioner incorporated additional gable brackets and a faux window on the rear side of the building.
In addition, the plan commission debated whether they preferred natural wood or white gable brackets, with CVS Pharmacy suggesting the commission go with white, claiming it better fits the planned design.
“If you would have asked me without seeing the character exhibits, I would have said natural wood all the time,” commission member Andre Maue said. “It’s my preference, but seeing these, I like the white. I think it looks consistent with the natural color scheme.”
Plan Commission President Randy Graham agreed with Maue on the white coloring.
“If you would have asked me without seeing it side-to-side, I would have said natural wood as well, but I think the white is more consistent with the theme they are going with now. I think it looks better,” Graham said.
