The world premiere of “The Violin Under the Bed” and The Tarkington premiere of “The Scarlett Letter” will take place at 7 p.m. Oct. 7-8 at The Tarkington at the Center for Performing Arts in Carmel.

The cast consists of 22 performers from the Gregory Hancock Ballet Theatre, including six company performers, 13 student company members, two interns and one guest artist.

Company performers include Hannah Brown, Taylar Green, Abigail Lessaris, Eduardo Permuy, Brittney Richards, Erica Steward and guest artist, Martin Casanova.

“Beautiful art makes beautiful communities,” said Ivy Heazeltine, President of the Board of Directors for the Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre. “Carmel is very privileged to have an artist like Gregory Hancock in our community.”

Heazeltine also noted that next year will mark the 20th year of the Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre.

Hancock is founder, artistic director and principal choreographer for the Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre, a non-profit, professional, contemporary ballet company located at 326 Gradle Dr. in Carmel.

Performance highlights include a stage full of Marilyn Monroes, 1980s music, and Hancock’s most personal piece to date, “The Violin Under the Bed,” a tribute to his mother. “The Scarlett Letter” is a literary classic adapted to tell the story of the Marilyn Monroe and her struggles in Hollywood.

It’s a beautiful array of music,” said Heazeltine. “[Hancock] is really good at picking enchanting and relevant pieces of music.”
