Fifty Carmel High School students have been named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists for 2017. These seniors have the opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $33 million.

“These students have attained a remarkable accomplishment, and Carmel Clay Schools is tremendously proud of each of our 50 National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists,” Carmel Clay Schools Supt. Dr. Nicholas D. Wahl stated in a press release.

The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants from the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

CHS will recognize the semifinalists and their families at a reception at the high school at 10 a.m. Oct. 7 and at the school board meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Educational Services Center.
