Run(317) began three years ago and was set in Marion County to celebrate the 317 area code and its neighborhoods, people, charities and restaurants. Previously, the 3.17-mile run took place in Fountain Square, on Massachusetts Avenue and in Broad Ripple. For the first time, the run will take place outside of Marion County when it comes to Carmel Sept. 1.

Each race has a charity it supports, and this year the new charity is Energy Krazed, which empowers teens to take charge of their health.

Scotty’s Brewhouse is the title sponsor of the race, and it will provide all participants 21 and older with two beverages from Thr3e Wise Men Brewery.

“We try and get as close to their locations as possible, and this one we just happen to finish right in front,” said Jeff Graves, owner of Vision Event Management, the company organizing the race.  “We finish up with a big post-race party that will have multiple vendors there.”

The race begins at 7 p.m. Sept. 1 on Main Street in Carmel. Main Street will be closed beginning at 5 p.m. Registration is $38.

Prizes from local business will be given to the top three male and female finishers. The post-race party is open to the public and is free of charge. Currently, 1,700 people are signed up to participate in the race.
