Brooks back on ballot – Rep. Susan W. Brooks has been returned to the ballot and will continue her reelection bid. Republican precinct committeemen voted to return Brooks to the ballot as the Republican Congressional nominee for the Fifth District.

Quilters meeting – The Quilters Guild of Indianapolis will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 8 at Second Presbyterian Church, 7700 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis. Nationally known quilt teacher, speaker and fiber artist Catherine Redford will present Lessons Learned While Quilting. For more information, visit www.QuiltGuildIndy.net.

Indiana Design Center Preview Night –The Indiana Design Center in Carmel is hosting a Fall Design Preview Night 5:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 25.  The Preview Night is an evening to enjoy the latest design trends and showroom introductions at the Indiana Design Center and to meet the design professionals who can help pull it all together. There will be live music and complimentary beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres by the Blu Moon Cafe.

History of the Dad’s Club – The Carmel Clay Historical Society presents The History of the Carmel Dad’s Club at 7 p.m. Aug. 30 at the library. Dan Chapman will talk about the origins of the club and the people who have worked to make it great over the years.

Quilters meeting – The Quilters Guild of Indianapolis North will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 2 at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, 1605 E. 106th St. Guild member Martha Higdon will present Batting Does Make a Difference. The color of the month is blue-violet.  All attendees are encouraged to wear blue-violet. Drive Sober campaign – The 2016 Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign has begun and will run through Sept. 5. Local law enforcement will work overtime to conduct sobriety patrols and checkpoints around the clock. Hamilton County joins thousands of law enforcement agencies across the country in this campaign.

Native tree sale – The Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation District is holding its annual native tree sale. Trees are $25 and will be approximately 3- to 5-feet tall at delivery. Orders are due Sept. 3. Trees can be picked up Sept. 9 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Hamilton County 4-H Fairgrounds llama barn. Online ordering and payment is available at www.hamiltonswcd.org.

New area code – Beginning Oct. 17, all new phone numbers assigned within the 317 area will receive the new 463 area code. This will not affect existing phone numbers. Ten-digit dialing will continue to be necessary for local calls to be completed. For more information, visit www.att.com/areacode.

Civil War Roundtable – The Hamilton County Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 at Carmel City Hall. Ray Boomhower, senior editor for the Indiana Historical Society Press and author will be speaker. The public is invited and admission is free.

Arts and crafts vendors needed – Applications for artists and crafters at St. Mark’s United Methodist Women’s 2016 Holiday Arts & Crafts Marketplace Nov. 5 are now being accepted. Included in the $25 rental fee are one eight-foot table covered with black vinyl and two chairs. Limited electricity is available. Marathon registration open – Registration is now open for the seventh annual Carmel Marathon, April 22, 2017. Early bird registration fees are available for full marathon, half marathon, 8K run and 5K run. This is the second-largest marathon in the state. Intersection closure – The intersection of Carmel Drive and Range Line Road is closed until approximately mid-November for construction of a roundabout. Local businesses will remain accessible during the closure. Detours will be in place. Visit www.CarmelLink.com for more information.

Coding documentary – Diversity is needed in the IT community. A new documentary, CODE: Debugging the Gender Gap, explores this issue and shows how to close the gap. The film will be screened at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at UA Galaxy Stadium 14. The event will feature a speaker following the film and a fundraiser for the Noble Crossing Elementary Girls’ Coding Club. Cinch Cycling at Rollfast – Pro cyclist Tom Danielson will attend the Rollfast Gran Fondo in Carmel Sept. 18. Danielson has started a new business called Cinch Cycling and focuses on training camps, clinics and coaching. Danielson will bring the Cinch Cycling experience to Carmel. Casual riders will have the opportunity to ride with a pro that finished eighth in the Tour de France and has twice won the Tour of Utah. For more information, visit www.CinchCycling.com.

Road closure – Rolling Springs Drive will remain closed until approximately Aug. 29 due to the culvert replacement. Detour for this project consists of 116th Street and East Carmel Drive and the utilization of Keystone Parkway.
