A lead from the Boone County Economic Development Corporation office led to AmerisourceBergen moving into a distribution center in Whitestown.

“They were considering multiple locations throughout Indiana and even outside Indiana,” said Molly Whitehead, Boone County Economic Development executive director.

The AmerisourceBergen, a drug wholesale company, is moving into a distribution center in a facility off of Indianapolis Road near I-65 in Whitestown in 2017. The facility, with approximately 300,000 square feet, will be used by AmerisourceBergen Drug Corporation, a division within AmerisourceBergen.

“We anticipate that approximately 130 associates will work at the Whitestown location once the facility is fully operational,” said Lauren Moyer, director of external communications for AmerisourceBergen. “AmerisourceBergen distribution centers are strategically placed across the U.S. in order to provide the fastest, safest and most effective drug delivery to the pharmacists and customers we serve.”

Whitehead said that on average the jobs at the distribution center will provide above-average wages for Boone County. She also said there is some minimal work that needs to be done to get the space ready.

The Whitestown Town Council approved a $10 million, $1.27 million personal property tax abatement. The company will be leasing the building.

“When we look for potential businesses to locate in Boone County, we obviously want to see higher-paying wages to provide more opportunity,” Whitehead said. “But the added benefit of companies that do pay the higher wages is they typically can pull more people locally first. With any of our employers there is still a regional impact. We do anticipate bringing in potential workers for Amerisource or for other companies.”

MWI Veterinary Supply, a subsidiary of AmerisourceBergen, already has a facility in Whitestown.
