Since last fall, Zionsville Community Schools has been working to develop an improved website with better security and mobile ability. In the next few weeks, the site will be available for use.

“There was a number of reasons we decided to make a change,” said Dan Layton, chief technology officer for ZCS. “One of the items on our list is we did a security audit and one of the areas we were a little behind in was our website. One of the things our constituents always talked about (wanting) was the ease of use on a cell phone. We wanted to have a website that was responsive to a smartphone or tablet.”

The new site does not have a mobile app, but Layton said that when the site is viewed from a tablet or smartphone, it will be mobile friendly.

“This will be much more user friendly,” he said. “It’s going to allow us to show off more of what we’re really proud of here, like our students’ work. Users will see more pictures and videos of our kids and what they’re doing in the classroom. It’s very easy for our constituents to navigate through and allows us to really show off our student learners.”

Last fall, Layton said ZCS researched different companies and surveyed parents on what they wanted in a website. Once the design was approved, the programming took two to three weeks. Once the site is live, Layton said modifications will probably be done.

In addition to the improved website security and mobility, the new site will also have enhanced search capabilities and additional features.

“We are really proud of it and excited to see it come out here,” Layton said.
