Weather permitting, motorists traveling on I-69 through Fishers can expect southbound lanes to shift toward the right shoulder as early as the evening of Aug. 16.

According to a release from the Indiana Dept. of Transportation, southbound lanes will be shifted away from the median to allow for crews to construct an additional southbound lane. Northbound lanes of I-69 are already in this configuration.

Forecasted rain could postpone the southbound lane shifts to later in the week. Shifting the lanes will require alternating lane closures on southbound I-69 between Exit 210 and Exit 205 between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

After the southbound lanes are shifted, subsequent overnight lane closures will be needed to modify the temporary concrete barrier that lines the I-69 median as entrance and exit routes will need to be added for construction trucks. INDOT is asking motorists to be alert for construction trucks entering and exiting the area. The speed limit has been reduced to 60 mph and is 50 mph when workers are present.
