Max Hammond, 9, competed in the U.S. Taekwondo National Championships in Richmond, Va., last month. He won the bronze medal among 14 competitors in his age group.

Max has done Taekwondo since he was 4 years old. He qualified for the U.S. Taekwondo National Championships by winning a gold medal in sparring and silver medal in Poomsae, or forms, at the Michigan State Taekwondo Championship.

“(Taekwondo is) better than any other sport that I’ve played,” Max said. “What I like the most about Taekwondo is really just spending my time to practice with all my teammates and coach.”
