Local artists will gather in Zionsville Aug. 13 for the Plein Air Paint Out. The SullivanMunce Cultural Center is partnering with the Indiana Plein Air Painters to host the 11th annual event.

“A plein air paint out is painting outside. The artists will go out into the community in Zionsville and paint,” said Cynthia Young, SullivanMunce executive director. “They can paint anything they want. Last year the winner painted koi fish in a pond. It just needs to be in Zionsville.”

The event will go on regardless of the weather.

“You never know what you’re going to get with the weather,” Young said. “They can paint rain or shine. A lot of the professional painters are used to painting in snow or rain.”

There is no cost for artists to participate. Those interested must arrive at the SullivanMunce Cultural Center to register between 7 and 10 a.m. They will have their canvas or board stamped for judging purposes. Awards will be given in four categories: youth (ages 5-10), teen (ages 13-17), amateur adult (18 and older) and professional adult (adult 18 and older who makes part of their living from art).

Artists will drop paintings off to be judged at 2 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., an awards ceremony will take place at Lincoln Park.

“All the paintings will be available for purchase after the judging if anyone is interested,” Young said.” We encourage the community to come out and see all the paintings and witness the awards ceremony.”
