The Wine Guy at Grapevine Cottage in Fishers hosted a wine tasting for more than 140 of its loyal customers June 18. The wine and specialty food store relocated from 96th Street to 8235 E. 116th St. in downtown Fishers in May. Grapevine Cottage also has a location in Zionsville.

“Our main store is in Zionsville and this location was on 96th Street, but because of the construction and timing of our lease being up we were able to move in here,” GC Wine Expert Mike Lyman said. “This is the first tasting we’ve had here at this location. It’s been great here. This is a really nice location. We have a lot of walk-in traffic.”

Wine tasting visitors were presented with more than 30 different wines to try across four different stations. GC staff and wine distributors guided guests through each wine, describing characteristics such as varietal, vintage and region. Tasters also were given ideas for what types of food paired well with each wine along with personal stories about each wine maker.

Grapevine Cottage carries more than 1,000 different wines rated 90 points or better by Wine Advocate, Wine Enthusiast or Wine Spectator. Most wines are less than $20.

“We’re all wine guys and wine gals, so this is a fun thing for us — to help people find what they’re looking for,” Lynam said.

Along with wine, GC also offers gourmet foods, Smoking Goose meats, pasta, flavored olive oils and Indiana-based food products.

“Enjoying good wine isn’t about the price, fancy bottles or hard-to-pronounce names. It’s about flavor and having fun,” GC Owner Doug Pendleton said. “We try to take the intimidation out of buying wine and guide customers to the perfect one for whatever reason they’re taking the time to enjoy it.”
