Party on the Patio returns

June 22 will mark the kick-off of the fourth season of Party on the Patio, an event held by the Downtown Westfield Association.

“(Party on the Patio) started because (four years ago,) there weren’t many merchants downtown, and we just wanted to cause a bit of a hubbub downtown making something happen where people can stop by and use it for entertainment or networking,” said Teresa Skelton, executive director of the DWA.

Skelton said as she would look out the DWA window, she would see the patio and thought it should be used. Her solution was Party on the Patio. Over the past four years, the parties have evolved due to sponsorships.

“The interesting part about it is that you see some of the same people all the time, but there’s always a new group of people that come,” Skelton said.

This year, most parties will take place on merchant patios over the DWA patio.

“We have enough spots downtown now that we will hold the parties at other locations,” she said. “It’s nice because now we have these options. The whole idea now is I can see this evolving into the merchants hosting this.”

Food and drinks – alcoholic beverages included – are free to those who attend.

“It has always been and will always be free,” Skelton said. “We try to get enough to accommodate the whole evening, and when we run out, we run out, but the guests can purchase (food and drinks) beyond that.”

The first party of the season will be 5 to 8 p.m. June 22 in the back barn and patio of The Italian House on Park, 219 Park St.

Live music will also be provided. For June, the performer is the Michael Beck and Tim Brickley Duo.
