“Explore HC” to supplement summer reading programs and encourage families to experience local history in Hamilton County

This summer, five libraries across Hamilton County will reward families that take the initiative to learn more about the county in honor of Indiana’s Bicentennial. In addition to existing summer reading programs, Explore HC was created to help Hamilton County residents experience local history in new ways.

“Our goal was to collaboratively create a new layer to the summer reading program that fits into all communities in Hamilton County for the Bicentennial,” stated Beth Meyer, deputy director, Fishers. “We hope to be the catalyst for families to take ownership of their community’s past, present and future.”

Those who wish to participate in Explore HC can pick up a passport with a list of locations to visit at Hamilton East, Hamilton North, Carmel Clay, Westfield Washington or Sheridan libraries. Once a listed stop is visited, families are encouraged to take a photo, create a song, paint a picture, or write a story about their explorations and then share with any Hamilton County library to collect a stamp. Families are also encouraged to use the hashtag #ExploreHC when documenting their experiences on social media at each location.
