Project Good: Providing transportation to veterans

0

Volunteers from the Knights of Columbus at St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church began supplying volunteers in January to provide transportation for veterans to the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. Many of the veterans are unable to drive themselves, but they may need frequent visits to the hospital. So Zionsville volunteers like Tom Weintraut have been driving the veterans. Why? “Because we owe it to them.”

The need is great. So far, they have three drivers who help drive within Marion Co., but they said they’d really like to recruit enough drivers so that they can serve veterans in Boone Co. Boone Co. is one of the few counties in the state of Indiana that does not have volunteers organized to drive veterans to the VA hospital. A volunteer would need to have at least a four-hour block of time to participate. For more about the program, visit stalkofc.com.  To volunteer at the VA, visit indianapolis.va.gov/giving/.
