Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation is gearing up for another West Park community workshop. Beginning the first week of May, CCPR will host a series of events involving the public over the course of three days to gather input on the future of West Park.

CIC-COM-0804- Parks awards Michael Klitzing“This is not the end of the process but a key component to the process where at the end of the three days we’ll come out with an actual illustrated draft of what the master plan is going to look like,” Parks Director Michael Klitzing said. “It still has to go through park board approval and public input, but it really will give the first big snapshot on what West Park will look like.”

The events will take place from May 2 to 5 and include guided tours of the park, three community meetings and two design studio sessions where the public can observe the park’s designers at work.

“One of the big things that they’re going to be doing is really putting together the design principles for the park,” Klitzing said. “The design team is going to be working and doing their stuff, but really it’s an opportunity for the public to see them in action and ask questions while they’re doing that.”

At the final community meeting, the public will be invited to see the finalized renderings and concepts for the park.

“That’s really where we’re going to present this first draft of the master plan to the public,” Klitzing said. “We will walk through what’s in there and what’s not then provide opportunities for public feedback. We think that through this process we are definitely going to come up with a master plan that really does serve the residents in Carmel and Clay Township.”
