Executive director leaving Hamilton County Area Neighborhood Development

Nate Lichti, the executive director of the nonprofit Hamilton County Area Neighborhood Development, announced he will leave his post to take a position at another nonprofit.

Lichti, who served as director since 2012, will join IFF, which is a “mission-driven lender, real estate consultant, and developer that helps communities thrive by creating opportunities for low-income communities and people with disabilities,” according to its Web site.

IFF is a nonprofit organization that started off as the Illinois Facilities Fund before branching out and starting offices in eight other Midwestern states including Indiana. One way IFF strives to make a difference is by helping nonprofit organizations obtain loans.

Lichti said he’s pleased with the work he’s done over the past four years with HAND and “while not every effort yielded a ‘house,’” he said he believes he changed a lot of hearts and minds when it comes to affordable housing.

“This will be a great opportunity for me to work with nonprofits statewide,” he said. “I’ll still be able to be engaged in affordable housing. It’s just a different platform for me. I’ll still be engaged in these issues.”

Lichti said he looks forward to see who the board of HAND will choose as his successor. He knows they have a big task ahead. For the fifth consecutive year, Hamilton County was shut out of federal tax credits for affordable housing. Lichti said he hopes that trend will change in coming years as more people understand the importance of affordable housing in the area.
