In November, Todd Oliver, president of the Carmel Road Racing Group, teamed up with Kevin Paul of Brockway Public House and Danny Boy Beer Works to create a Pub2Pub 5K.

Oliver said he was happily surprised by the turnout. So they decided to plan another event.

“It had such a great vibe,” Oliver said. “People just hung out in the grass and enjoyed a beer. No neighbors complained. Everything went smoothly. We knew we wanted to do it again.”

They’re putting on a shortened version of the Pub2Pub 5K on St. Patrick’s Day. The one-mile Danny Boy St. Pat’s Dash will take place at 6:30 p.m. March 17 at Danny Boy Beer Works in the Village of West Clay. Registration is $10 and is limited to the first 200 runners. There will be a bagpiper and live music from 8 to 11 p.m.

“We love St. Patrick’s Day at both Danny Boy and the Brockway Pub,” said Paul, owner of both establishments. “The celebration of this day was very much the passion of my late wife, Lainie, who worked so hard to support Carmel, West Clay and especially our local firefighters. This race is an awesome community event and we hope everyone comes and enjoys some of our ‘wicked awesome’ beers while taking in a fun run or walk.”

Another 5K event will be held in November, but Oliver said they might try to plan one in the summer as well.
