Zionsville’s local pie company has another honor to add to its growing list. Last month, My Sugar Pie’s Hoosier Sugar Cream Pie was named the best pie in Indiana by Yahoo Travel’s list of best pies in the country.
Among the shop’s 39 pies available, Yahoo Travel fittingly selected Indiana’s state pie.
My Sugar Pie, which opened in 2008, was Indiana’s entry in People Magazine’s 2013 “Food Gifts from Every State” feature and has been mentioned on Oprah’s blog.
“Oprah had our pies at Harpo Studios when her company was helping to develop a veteran’s channel with a friend of ours,” said Kelly Maucere, owner of My Sugar Pie.
Maucere’s shop has received other recognitions this year by Indianapolis Monthly and Edible Indy.
“WFYI and Yelp will be recording/interviewing My Sugar Pie Dec. 16 for a radio feature in January for the bicentennial,” Maucere said.
She will be doing a party for Yelp on National Pie Day, Jan. 23. While she said the Hoosier Sugar Cream Pie has received the most recognition, her favorite is Peanut Butter Cream.
“The Yahoo travel editors and I pick favorites from our personal travels, then we rely on friends, relatives and other sources for the rest,” said Melinda Crowe, the Yahoo Travel writer who selected My Sugar Pie as top in the state. “I have not been to My Sugar Pie, but the things I heard while researching the story have put it on my pie bucket list,” she said. “I want some Mom’s Original Dutch Apple!”
Last year Yahoo Travel launched a series of 50 state columns with topics ranging from “Best Place to Rent a Boat in Every State” to “50 Hidden Gems Across America.”
