With the New Year fast approaching, gym subscriptions are a big hit. However, Westfield resident Susan Dobbs brings a different type of exercise with her new franchise Jazzercise, Inc., 13645 N. Meridian St., Carmel, which held its grand opening last month.
Dobbs previously taught jazzercise classes at Christ United Methodist Church in Westfield and by the Carmel License Branch. However, when a Carmel woman decided to sell her business, Dobbs jumped to the idea.
Jazz dance, hip hop, Pilates, yoga and kickboxing are all combined in one Jazzercise workout. Dobbs said each of her 60-minute workouts feature cardio and strength training, using all genres of music to keep the class fun and interesting.
“When you hear jazzercise, you think legwarmers and leotards, right? Or a workout for your mom, but not for you? We admit that our workouts got so popular in the ’80s that we created a fitness revolution that people still associate with us today,” Dobbs said. “We’re still evolving and transforming people’s bodies and lives.”
Dobbs offers 20 classes each week with a mix of class formats.
“Jazzercise has been so blessed to support many community organizations such as Open Doors, Relay for Life, Underground Rail Road Run and our fabulous schools,” Dobbs said. “Each year, we help out at the elementary school walk-a-thons by leading the kids in a high-energy, fun-packed workout before they do their walking.”
Dobbs said in the future, she plans on implementing more class times in her business.
