You’re probably familiar with the seasonal expedition to the mall for Christmas presents. You might also take your kids each year to sit on Santa’s lap for a photo.

This year, the Humane Society for Boone Co. is offering a similar experience for pets and their owners from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Whitestown Municipal Complex, 6210 S. 700 E.

WhiskerFest 2015 combines a craft show and a pet photo op with Santa. Susan Austin, the vice president of the Humane Society for Boone Co., said it’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate pets and shop for homemade holiday gifts at the same time.

“My best holiday decorations came from craft art fairs as have some of my best gifts to friends,” Austin said.

The crafts will include hand-painted barn quilts, handcrafted glass designs, handmade dog collars and leads and many other items from local vendors.

All pets are welcome as long as they are on a leash or in a carrier. No hooved pets are allowed inside. Pet photos are $20 for the print and digital copy.

The Humane Society for Boone Co. will provide some festive holiday antlers, collars and other apparel for pets to wear, but pets can also wear their own costumes. Children are welcome to join the photo shoots.

Austin said the event is also designed to raise awareness of her organization and build community support. She also hopes to recruit more volunteers and foster families. Animals available for adoption will be on site at WhiskerFest.
