Carmel High School’s Holiday Spectacular will be a true trip down memory lane.

The theme of this year’s annual show is “Somewhere in My Memory.” The performances are 7 p.m. on Dec. 2, 3 and 4 and 2 p.m. on Dec. 5, 6 at CHS auditorium.

“We’re taking a look back at everyone’s favorite holiday memories,” said Kathrine Kouns, director of choirs. “The whole show is designed around the idea of transporting people back to their favorite things from the holiday season when they were growing up. It might be nostalgic songs or movies that they’ve seen or parties they’ve had. There’s a lot of up-tempo songs along with the more heartfelt and more reverent songs.”

Before the performance and during a couple of songs, Kouns said there will be a slideshow of some of the performance’s holiday members, such as baby pictures of visits to Santa Claus. There also will be photos submitted from faculty and community members on the slideshow.

There are 11 different choirs and ensembles performing. There are more than 120 students performing on stage along with 42 instrumentalists in the orchestra and approximately 30 technical crew members.

Kouns said John Burlace, associate director of choirs, arranged a finale of “O Holy Night” and “Silent Night.”

“It’s a beautiful original arrangement. He wrote the whole thing for our ensemble so we could debut that brand new piece,” Kouns said. “It’s just a really beautiful show. We view Holiday Spectacular as being our gift to the Carmel community, something our students can give back to the community to kick off the holiday season. I really think the song selections and the way the students are performing this year is going to be exactly the right recipe for putting people in the holiday spirit. Even Santa himself will be in the show.”

Tickets are available at ticketracker.com. Tickets range from $8 to $18.
