Know before you go: Indiana Department of Transportation asks drivers to plan for more driving time during Thanksgiving travels

0

The Indiana Department of Transportation issued a press release today to remind Hoosiers to travel safely and plan for more driving time during the busy Thanksgiving travel holiday. With record low fuel prices, AAA Hoosier Motor club predicts 941,231 Indiana residents will hit the roads Nov. 25 through Nov. 29 – an increase of one  percent over last year.

Road work suspended

Beginning Wednesday at noon, most highway maintenance activities and construction projects will halt work until sunrise on Monday, Nov. 30, to increase roadway mobility and safety. INDOT directs its contractors to pull back barriers and barricades to the safest extent possible to accommodate the anticipated increase in holiday travel.

Some restrictions will remain in place due to ongoing road construction, including:

The left lane of I-94 eastbound is closed in Porter County between Mile 21 and State Road 49 (Exit 26),

I-65 southbound is reduced to one lane for about a mile in Newton County between State Road 2 (Exit 240) and State Road 10 (Exit 230),

I-65 is reduced to two narrow lanes with lane shifts from Main Street in Greenwood (Exit 99) to State Road 252 (Exit 80) in Edinburgh and just south of the Henryville Rest Area (Mile 21.5)

U.S. 31 is restricted to two narrow lanes with traffic shifts for about two miles north of I-465 in Indianapolis,

I-469 is reduced to one lane in each direction south of Fort Wayne between State Road 1 (Exit 6) and Tillman Road (Exit 15), and

The I-69 northbound ramp to westbound I-64 and the I-69 southbound ramp to eastbound I-64 are closed at Exit 21 north of Evansville.
