The library might not be a place people normally consider for holiday shopping, but the Friends of the Library’s new event, Savor and Shop, aims to change that.

From 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 13 adults can shop for handcrafted jewelry, linens and tutus along with toys, books and a special gift card from The Scoop. At the same time, they can enjoy appetizers and desserts donated by restaurants such as Confectioneiress and El Toro. The night will be capped with the announcement of silent auction winners, for which bidding is already underway throughout the library.

More than a dozen items and packages have been donated by the community: a complete vehicle detail, jewelry from Jewel Box Jewelers, interior design services and a blanket from Village Custom Embroidery are among the many items up for bid. The items will be available for bidding until approximately 7 p.m. at Savor and Shop.

“I think we have some really good stuff,” said Friends of the Library President Erin Czajkowski. “I feel like it’s a really nice selection.”

“I want people to see who the Friends are and why people join and what they do and how it benefits the library by having a relaxing evening and providing funds that will go back to the library to support programming, “ she said.

Czajkowski became involved with Friends of the Library after taking her young sons there frequently and enjoying the many programming options.

“I felt like this role was a small way I could give back to the library,” she said.

She hopes that Savor and Shop will continue in the future.

“I want it to be an event where people come and relax and enjoy it and know they’re supporting a good cause,” Czajkowski said.

Free gift-wrapping will be available for all purchases, including silent auction items.

Admission to Savor and Shop is $5, with members receiving free admission. Friends membership begins at $10. Proceeds from the evening will help fund library programming.
