Lawrence Council passes 2016 budget, amends city salaries

The Lawrence Common Council met on Oct. 21 at Lawrence Government Center. All council members were in attendance.

What happened: A proposal to fix salaries of appointed officers and employees of The Lawrence Police Department and Fire Department for the year 2016 was presented before council.

Why it matters: Council approved the proposal which resulted in a three percent increase for public safety officials. The salary changes will take effect on Jan. 1, 2016.

What happened: The 2016 Lawrence City Budget was presented and passed by the council.

Why it matters: The 2016 budget totaled in at $29,169,951. The net tax rate of all funds was $0.99 and the total property tax levy $13,830,00.
