The September Teacher of the Month winner is Jayne Shubat, a fourth grade teacher at Eagle Elementary. Student Izzy Casciani nominated her. As a reward, Izzy won a pizza party for her class, and Shubat won a $50 gift card for Market District, Teacher of the Month sponsor.

Here is Izzy’s winning essay:

I know that Mrs. Shubat is the most special teacher in all of Zionsville! Here are my reasons why.

First, Mrs. Shubat is very enthusiastic every day! She grew up in Zionsville and attended Eagle Elementary herself! She said teaching there for the past 33 years is her dream job!

Mrs. Shubat is also great at keeping us motivated! She makes everything about learning fun! We play a lot of math games, make up jingles for grammar, and even take “Brain Breaks” where we get out of our seats and move, or do a dance.

One of my favorite things about Mrs. Shubat is when she finds an essay that one of us has written and lets the author stand on their chair while she reads the passage aloud. We call our chairs our pedestals when we do this. It really makes the author of the essay proud when everyone applauds!

I believe Mrs. Shubat deserves the Teacher of the Month award for all these reasons and many more! I feel really lucky to have her as my fourth grade teacher!

To submit an essay and nominate a teacher for the October Teacher of the Month, email a 100-word essay to [email protected]. All essays are due by Oct. 15.
