Startup Clear Software LLC has plans to boost its marketing efforts and Zionsville presence after receiving about $1 million in venture capital funding.

The company, which launched in 2012, makes popular business software such as SAP and Salesforce easier to use.

Clear Software has hired Philip Best as vice president of sales to help market the company and its products.

“Part of being a successful entrepreneur is being able to recognize your weaknesses and trying to compensate,” CEO Jon Gilman said. “So sales and marketing was definitely our weakness, and that’s why we needed to raise the money.”

Chicago-based firm David A. Noyes & Co. helped facilitate the funding.

“Usually you get a lot more traction out in Silicon Valley and Midwest firms are a lot more conservative with new ideas,” Gilman said. “It was the exact opposite for us. We had all the interest from Midwestern firms.”

Gilman said the company will use some of the money to create a centralized office space in the Zionsville area.

“We’re going to centralize everyone into the Zionsville community, grow the company and just be a good employer and good taxpayer for the Zionsville community,” Gilman said.
