Free household hazardous waste collection Aug. 22 at Zionsville Town Hall

Boone County Solid Waste Management District is sponsoring a free household hazardous waste collection and electronics recycling event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 22 at Zionsville Town Hall, 1100 W. Oak St.

The event is open for Boone County residents. Business or industrial waste will not be accepted.

Acceptable items include:

  • Antifreeze
  • Brake fluid
  • Motor oil
  • Small propane tanks
  • Glues and adhesives
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Fluorescent tube lights/CFL bulbs
  • Oil-based paint/thinner/stain
  • Pesticides/herbicides/insecticides
  • Sharps
  • Gasoline
  • Household cleaners
  • Aerosols
  • Pool chemicals
  • Thermometers and thermostats
  • Batteries (automobile and rechargeable)
  • Electronics (a $10 fee for tube-based TVs)

The following items will not be accepted:

  • Radioactive waste
  • Explosives
  • Alkaline batteries
  • Latex paint
  • Tires
